Just like sleep and diet, exercise is also important for our mental health but just how important is it and how much exercise should we do. More and more studies are showing that exercising is a good way to help manage mental health and is that something that should be recommended alongside of traditional mental illness treatments.

Everyone sleeps but how much we sleep, and the quality varies from person to person. Sleep allows the body to heal, process thoughts, helps with the immune system and generally clear the brain of excess thoughts. An average adult needs somewhere between 7-9 hours of sleep a night to function. For some people they might be able to get away with 7 hours of sleep for others they need 9 hours. Â

It’s not that hard to draw the links between diet and mental health. When we go on junk food binges, we don’t feel the greatest afterwards both mentally and physically, but when we eat healthily our moods are stable, we’re able to concentrate better and we just feel great overall. That isn’t to say we shouldn’t indulge or treat ourselves, but we should also be aware of what we are eating and how it will impact our mental health. Last week we looked at gut health and mental health and it seems natural to look at diet and mental health. We often hear the saying you are what you eat so how can we be mentally stable with our diet?
