Talking About Sexual Consent

Sexual consent has become a big topic of interest and only more so with the “me too” movement. More recently it has made news with new consent laws coming into place in NSW. Which poses the question will all the other states follow suit?

Sexual consent is the permission given to do anything of sexual nature. In Australia, we have laws regarding sexual consent including the age of consent. These laws are set by each state and slightly vary. An example of this is the age of consent. In all states except for Tasmania and South Australia the age of consent is 16, in Tasmania and South Australia however the age of consent is 17. This means that it is against the law to have sex with someone who is under that age and doing so is a criminal offence.

The Impacts That Covid has had on Mental Health

In 2020 Covid hit our shores with it bringing lockdowns, isolation, panic buying, masks, fear and uncertainty. It also brought a time for the world to heal, with it giving scientists a once in a lifetime opportunity to observe what happens when you take humans out of the world and see animals reclaim what was once theirs. 

David Attenborough was barely able to contain his excitement in his documentary The Year Earth Changed looked in-depth at the positive impact Covid had on the world due to all the lockdowns and reduced travel.

More and more studies are showing that exercising is a good way to help manage mental health and is that something that should be recommended alongside of traditional mental illness treatments.

Embracing Change

Change is inevitable. Some change is good like the changing in seasons or changing how you make a favourite recipe because you found a better way to make it. Some change is normal like changing your hair style or changing your workout routine. Some change is scary like changing jobs or changing where you live. It doesn’t matter how much we don’t want to change to happen it will always happen, every day we make changes subconsciously and consciously. The small changes are easy, and they rarely make an impact on us, but the big changes can be challenging especially big changes during times of uncertainty such as in a pandemic.
